Hey Rush, Sean, Glenn and whoever else; you need to stop lying to the American people about the tax structure in this country.
Sure if you only examine the paper trail so far you could say the upper 10% pay this amount of taxes or that the upper 53% pay all the taxes and the rest of us don't pay in at all.
But that is an outright lie and a short sight version of all the facts. I would propose to you that the most of the lower 43% are skilled and unskilled labor person who don't own companies or share of stock at least on any measure when compared the upper 53%.
Skilled and unskilled labor persons pay taxes everday in this country by way of lower wages which come from a lowered demand. This lowered demand is fed by illegal immigrants who saturate the market with cheap illegal labor. The upper 53% takes advantage of this both directly and indirectly. The direct part is what seems to be the only part that ever catches anyones attention however. But it is the indirect method which is the most damaging. Indirectly the 53% of the upper income earners invest their money in stocks with American companies who hire skilled and unskilled labor and often time utilize illegal immigrants either directly or through a labor pool to curb their bottom line.
Once thought of as middle class occupations trades that would in todays market pay $60k a year pay typically half of that if the work is steady or availible. When a person who makes $60k/year files taxes they pay in but when their wage is $30k based on our tax structure they do not. So what companies are doing that employ illegal alien is they are making themselves an accessory to tax fraud. They know that illegal aliens can afford to work for less money because they will not file taxes.
This is one of the great myths of sudo-conservatism that has been swept up in the blogs and on the radio. When you look at the wage cuts suffered by the lower 43% who have seen their wages cut in half who is really paying the higher percentage in taxes???
In 1979 the Painters and Drywall Finishers Union in Denver Colorado had a base journeyman rate of $29/hour today that same union has a base rate of $16.50/hour up from $14/hour in the mid-90's. When we hear the ignorant chant about the "jobs Americans don't want to do" think about this it should really be said that illegal immigration is a product of soft slavery.
The GOP doesn't need a "big tent" we need a thoughtful common sense approach. The idea that minorities and lower income people would vote for a party so out of touch with reality on the subjects of taxes and labor is absurd. What the GOP should propose is an absolute moretoreum on all taxes for persons defined in skilled and unskilled trades making under $50k per year instead of EIC. They should do this to push the issue of closing our borders as an ultimatum for enforcing the law. By speaking directly to those in that demographic the GOP can make the case that without illegal immigrant labor their wages would have to go up. Because supply of labor would go down the demand would increase and the wages would increase to the levels a free market would provide.
I would also propose a tax amnesty for trades persons for the past ten years retroactively which would provide some with relief from their debt to the IRS and others with a check that would most likely be invested back into the market.
