Let me put this another way. Allowing the Religious Right to mix religion and politics legitimizes everything Obama is doing for those on his side opperate on faith in his actions. When you base your opinion of any cause on a groups faith in God and it's interpretation of His Word it can exclude everyone outside you religion.
Example
Of course abortion is a matter of life and death but not just because God says it is but rather the facts he has given us through medical science that allows us to now know what we could not prove when Roe v. Wade went through the Supreme Court. It is much easier to convince those who think a fetus is not a human being by showing them the proof. No one ever brings up the transcripts of the Justices oppinions that if it were a proven fact when that life is viable outside the womb they would have ruled to ban abortion. Instead it is part of a conversion of religious and morals process. No one wants their reality questioned unless they are unable to excercise control over their own lives. Likewise no one will ever be convinced to convert to being Christian by way of the abortion arguement. There are facts and studies that prove abortion to be a hazard to the woman, yet because it has become a religious debate these facts take a back seat to unproveable religious idealism.
Idealisms beget more idealism and using matters of faith as a primary standards in a debate on fact opens the debate unto all other opinions formed in faith. Which is exactly why Christians are loosing the abortion debate. Christians often forget that the scientist is also a child of the same God who has been blessed with the earthly skill to prove the "life" side of this arguement. This allows the "pro-choice" crowd to make up phony theories about the life of the mother, incest, rape and quality of life without backing them with any facts.
We can win on the facts if it is our focus.
) Environmentalism: None of your Bibles tells you to take care of the earth, none of them. Yet in the name of some kind of humanitarian goodwill or for some sort of acceptability standard many in the GOP allow their names to be thrown in to these hoax efforts. Ethanol, Acid Rain, Global Warming, Climate Change and the Ozone Layer are all examples of huge money pits that have never made anything any better for our environment.
